How to Speed Up a Troy-Bilt Super Bronco

The Super Bronco is a riding lawn mower manufactured by Troy-Bilt. The Super Bronco utilizes a governor as a way to control or regulate top speeds on the mower. However, faster speeds may be desirable, especially when cutting large fields over an acre or more in size. Disabling the governor, as well as making a few other small adjustments, can help significantly increase the speed of the Super Bronco. These adjustments will not take much longer than an hour to perform.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the engine compartment lid and remove the negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench.

    • 2

Remove the flywheel shroud bolts on the top of the engine with the socket set. Once the bolts are out, pull the cover off to access the governor.

    • 3

Unbolt the governor from its spot with the socket set and then remove the linkage running from the governor that is connected to the carburetor control arm. Remove the linkage with pliers.

    • 4

Replace the flywheel cover. Also use the adjustable wrench to tighten the negative battery cable back into place.

    • 5

Open and check the air filter. If it is dirty replace it with a new filter. This too, will help increase speed on the Super Bronco.
