How to Remove the Clutch Drive From an L110

The clutch drive on the John Deere L110 is a drive belt that connects between the engine and the transmission. The drive belt is a V-groove belts that runs a set of pulleys. You can expect the belt to last a very long time because John Deere uses Kevlar belts. When the belt does wear out, you will feel the lawn tractor lurch and lose power randomly. This tells you that the belt slips on the pulleys and its time for a replacement. Once you understand how to take off the belt, putting on the new one is easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the parking brake on the mower to keep it from moving while you work on it.

    • 2

Locate the idler pulleys under the mower; they are next to each other and have metal belt guides between them. Loosen the bolts that hold the pulleys in place. The idler pulleys will create slack in the belt to make the belt easier to remove.

    • 3

Pull the belt toward the pulley on the transmission and then pull the belt off the transmission. If necessary, remove the bolt that holds the belt guide next to the transmission pulley.

    • 4

Pull down on the pulley that extends from the bottom of the engine until the pulley clears the guards. Pull the belt off the pulley.

    • 5

Locate the nut that secures the pinion gear to the bottom of the steering shaft. Remove the nut with a socket and then pull the pinion gear off the steering shaft.

    • 6

Slide the steering shaft up and then pull the belt away from the mower.
