Gravely 830E Parts List

Gravely is a commercial lawn and garden equipment manufacturer headquartered in Brillion, Wisconsin. Founded in 1916, the company has grown to become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ariens Company with a robust product line of walk-behind, zero-turn and out-front lawnmowers sold through an independent network of dealers. The 830E was a riding mower manufactured by Gravely.
  1. Parts for Assembly

    • The Gravely 830E operator’s manual indicates that many of its parts required assembly prior to use. The riding mower came with a small carton that included a steering wheel, plastic fastener bag and chute deflector. In addition, electric-start models came with a battery carton and battery charger. The steering wheel was to be attached with spring washers and flat washers, while the chute deflector required hex head cap screws and lock nuts to connect it with the cutter housing. In addition, the seat fastened to the mower with lock washers.

    Control Parts

    • Owners of the Gravely 830E had to learn to use a variety of parts to control what was a relatively complicated machine. The throttle control controlled the speed of the engine, while the gearshift lever controlled the forward and backward driving speed. The machine could be stopped by depressing the brake pedal. As in a manually operated car, the clutch pedal had to be depressed when changing gears. Electric models were equipped with ignition switches with “On,” “Off” and “Start” settings, but manual models simply had “On” and “Off” settings.

    Battery

    • The battery included with the electric-start models of the Gravely 830E had to be activated prior to first use. To accomplish this, operators were required to remove filler caps from the battery and cautiously fill each battery’s cavities with acid. This had to be accomplished extremely carefully due to the toxic, corrosive nature of battery acid. In addition, batteries needed to be recharged after approximately 18 hours of use. This was accomplished by attaching charger clips which connected the battery to the battery charger. The battery charger was then plugged into an AC outlet. A battery that was completely drained of power took an estimated 23 hours to recharge.

    Gravely 830E Parts List

    • In addition to an operator’s manual, newly purchased Gravely 830E riding mowers also came with a detailed parts list. In it were comprehensive diagrams of each of the various systems that make up the machine, including the electrical system and rear axle. Approximately 311 parts appeared in the seven-page list.
