How to Restore John Deere 3 Cylinder Tractors

According to "Designing the New Generation John Deere Tractors," John Deere has built three-cylinder tractors since the 1990s. If these tractors were outside for an extended period of time, the engine and other pieces may no longer work. John Deere has engine repair kits available. These kits come with important parts of engine's like the pistons, gaskets and parts needed to keep these pieces working properly. The reason why these parts are included in the repair kit is that they are the parts that commonly fall apart.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the engine from the tractor by unbolting all of its parts with the ratchet and socket set.

    • 2

Replace any broken parts with new ones. Only use parts that are designed for the particular John Deere tractor model and that have no marks or cracks in them.

    • 3

Replace the spark plugs and filters. These ensure that the tractor receives the right spark to run the engine and keep the engine clean with free air.

    • 4

Add the parts from the John Deere 3 cylinder engine repair kit into the engine. The kit replaces pieces like the gasket and coil rings.

    • 5

Reattach the engine into the John Deere tractor.

    • 6

Inspect all pieces of the steering and starting mechanisms. Make sure all of the cables do not have any holes or are rusted. If they are replace them.

    • 7

Replace the tires if a tire patch kit will not plug up any visible holes.
