How to Put a Snowplow on a Cub Cadet 982

The Cub Cadet 982 is a basic lawn tractor with an engine just shy of 20-horsepower. This makes the lawn tractor a perfect candidate for light duty snow removal during the winter. Cub Cadet did not design a snowplow specifically for the Cub Cadet 918 but the International Cub Cadet 42-inch wide snow blade is a blade commonly installed on the Cub Cadet 918.

Instructions

    • 1

Bolt the lift arm to the snow blade’s main frame with three 1 1/2-inch by 1 1/4-inch cap screws, three lock washers and three 1 1/2-inch nuts. Tighten the cap screws and nuts with an Allen wrench and socket set.

    • 2

Slide the pivot frame to the bolt that protrudes from the bottom front of the main frame. Place a 3/4-inch washer onto the stud and then secure both the washer and the pivot frame with a 3/4-inch slotted hex nut or 3/4-inch slotted castle nut. Slide a 1/8-inch cotter pin through the hole in the stud to lock the nut in place.

    • 3

Slide slotted ends of the sub frame supplied with the snow blade onto the footrest rod mounted between the tractor’s foot rests. Lift the front of the sub frame up until the two tabs on the opposite end of the sub frame snap into the quick attach latch mounted just under the front of the tractor.

    • 4

Spread the ends of the sub frame until the holes on each side of the sub frame slide over the pins located on the side of the main frame. Place ¾-inch washers onto the pins. Then slide 1 1/4-inch cotter pins through the small holes located in the pins.

    • 5

Push the top of the blade mounted to the pivot frame rearward and then hook the springs to the holes on the top of the blade. Push the blade downward and slide the other end of the springs onto the pivot rods protruding from the pivot frame. Place washers onto the rods and then place 1 1/4-inch cotter pins through the small holes on the rods.

Lift up on the main frame and slide the lift rod into the hole on top of the lift arm. Place a washer onto the end of the lift rod and then slide a 1 1/4-inch cotter pin through the small hole on the lift rod. The lift rod is supplied with the snow blade.

Attach the other end of the lift rod onto the hole in the rockshaft arm, which is mounted just above the driver’s right foot rest. Place a washer onto the end of the lift rod and then slide a 1 1/8-inch cotter pin into the small hole on the lift rod.
