The Location of the Craftsman Lawn Mower ID Number

Your Craftsman lawn mower contains a model number, also known as an ID number, as well as an individual serial number that identifies the mower and the year it was manufactured. You need your mower’s model number to order parts and service from Sears or an authorized Sears’s repair service. Craftsman lawn mowers are equipped with Briggs and Stratton, Kawasaki, Kohler, Tecumseh and other engine types.
  1. Rear Upper Deck

    • Stand behind your Craftsman lawn mower and look for a metal plate on the mower’s rear upper deck. The tag is between the mower’s two wheels and will have the wording “Model” and “Serial Number” on it. Use an old rag or towel to wipe the metal tag to see the wording clearly if the tag is covered in debris.

    Engine Plate: Back

    • Stand behind your Craftsman lawn mower and look at its engine if you don’t see the metal plate on the mower’s upper rear deck. Look for the metal plate on the engine’s upper body. Wipe the metal tag with an old rag or towel to see the wording clearly if it is covered in debris.

    Engine Plate: Front

    • Shine a flashlight on the front of your Craftsman lawn mower and look for the wording “Model” and “Serial Number” engraved into the engine. The information will not be on a metal plate, and you may have to sit on the ground or kneel to the see the model/serial number information.

    Recording

    • Write your Craftsman lawn mower’s model and serial number on a piece of paper for future reference, or take a picture of the metal plate or engraving with a digital or film camera if available. Your Craftsman lawn mower’s model and serial number is also found in the mower’s owner’s manual on the front cover or first inner page if you still have the manual.
