How to Install a Farmall Temperature Gauge

The Farmall is a vintage tractor that was manufactured from the early 1920s until the 1970s, by International Harvester, which later changed its name to McCormick Farmall. The earliest Farmall tractors were modeled in letter-series form like the F-series and the H and the C. Later, the company shifted to using numbers to designate models. Farmalls were not manufactured with temperature gauges in their coolant systems. Installing an aftermarket temperature gauge is a viable option.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the Farmall to completely cool if it has been running. Once it has cooled, open the radiator cap and release any excess pressure.

    • 2

Locate a spot on the dash panel to mount the gauge. Hold the gauge in place and mark the mounting area with a pencil.

    • 3

Drill holes through the pencil marks using a 1.0 to 1.5 mm metal-drilling-bit.

    • 4

Insert the two retaining screws through the gauge brackets; tighten them with a screwdriver.

    • 5

Run the sending wire along one side of the engine compartment, using plastic ties to secure it.

    • 6

Open the engine outlet plug at the bottom right-hand-side of the radiator. Install the gauge's sending unit through this hole. Thread the unit into place by hand and tighten with pliers.
