Instructions to Convert a 4020 John Deere From 24V to 12V

The John Deere 4020 is a large tractor used for agricultural purposes such as mowing large fields and farmlands. The John Deere is powered by a 24-volt battery. However, if the 24-volt battery ever needs to be stepped down, you must use a DC to DC voltage converter, or regulator. DC to DC converters are circuits that convert direct current from a single voltage level to another. It takes about 15 minutes to hook up a DC to DC converter on the John Deere.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the converter's red wire to the Deere alternator's positive output post.

    • 2

Connect the converter's brown wire to the ignition wire with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Connect the converter's orange wire to the alternator's AC tap terminal.

    • 4

Connect the converter's blue wire to the alternator's field terminal.

    • 5

Connect the converter's black wire to the alternator's ground post.

    • 6

Start the Deere 4020 and then adjust the regulator's adjustable potentiometer from 24 volts down to 12 volts.
