Place the John Deere mower on a level surface. If you have a riding mower, set the parking brake and raise the seat so you have access to the filler cap of the fuel tank.
Set a spare gas can near the fuel tank of the John Deere mower. Remove the fuel tank and gas can caps.
Insert the solid tube of a hand siphon into the mower fuel tank. The bottom of the solid tube should be at an angle in the bottom of the fuel tank.
Place the flexible tube of the siphon into the spare gas can. Just insert the end of the tube enough that it is inside the can, but not all the way in the can.
Squeeze and release the pump bubble handle at the top of the hand siphon. As you squeeze and release, the siphon sucks up fuel from the lawn mower and drains it into the gas can. Continue squeezing and releasing the pump bubble handle until all the fuel is out of the John Deere lawn mower.
