How to Replace a Cub Cadet CV Joint Boot

The Cub Cadet is a riding lawn tractor meant for heavy use on large fields or farms. The CV joints on the Cub Cadet are protected by heavy-duty CV joint boots. However, due to rugged use, the CV joint boots can dry out, crack or become damaged. A damaged CV joint leaves the CV joint exposed and vulnerable to dirt and other debris that can prematurely wear the joint out. If the CV joint boot becomes damaged, it should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Cub Cadet emergency brake on, slide jack underneath it and jack up the rear tire the CJ boot is going to be changed on.

    • 2

Loosen the tire lugs with a lug wrench and then remove the tractor tire.

    • 3

Use a socket set to loosen the brake caliper. Suspend the caliper from the frame with a bungee cord.

    • 4

Loosen the screw on the clamp of the old CV joint bot and then slide the old boot and clamp off the end of the CV joint.

    • 5

Slide a new bracket and then the new boot over and onto the CV joint. Slip the bracket over the end of the boot and tighten the bracket screw with the screwdriver.

    • 6

Position the brake caliper back in place and then replace its retaining bolts with the socket set.

    • 7

Slide the Cub Cadet's tire back on, replace the lug nuts by hand and then tighten them with the lug wrench. Lower the tractor from the jack.
