Open the engine hood at the front of the mower to access the Kohler engine.
Find the flywheel on the engine. It's a distinctive, circular iron piece on the top of the Kohler assembly. The flywheel is actually covered with an iron shroud that is held in place with several bolts. This shroud prevents access to the actual flywheel and several corresponding parts. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts within the iron shroud.
Take the shroud off the flywheel once you have removed the bolts.
Find the engine's magneto part. The removal of the flywheel's iron shroud will make the magneto visible on the side of the flywheel, just under a plastic flap. This flap corresponds to the governor and is held down by a bolt. Take out this bolt with your socket wrench.
Locate the carburetor bowl on the left side of the engine. The bowl shape of the carburetor aids in identification. There is an eyelet on the engine's carburetor into which a rod from the governor extends. Use your hands to disconnect the rod from this eyelet. This will adjust the governor by disabling its speed restrictor, allowing the lawn mower to run at an unimpeded top speed.
