Troy-Bilt TB20CS Fixed Line Installation

The Troy-Bilt TB20CS is a two-cycle, 31 cc gasoline-powered string trimmer suitable for cutting grass or light weeds, edging and trimming around trees and fences. The TB20CS uses 0.095-inch cutting line and provides a 17-inch swath. Its curved handle is adjustable to accommodate right-handed or left-handed operation, and its spring-assisted starting greatly reduces pulling effort. The TB20CS is supplied with both a standard "bump head" reel to automatically dispense cutting line and the TroyBilt SpeedLock reel for fixed line operation. Converting to fixed line operation involves removing the standard bump head inner reel and replacing it with the SpeedLock reel.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the larger outer line spool with one hand and unscrew the large knurled Bump Knob.

    • 2

Separate the inner line reel from the outer line spool and remove the inner reel. Retain the spring.

    • 3

Install the SpeedLock reel onto the drive shaft and align the arrows on the SpeedLock with the eyelet openings in the outer spool.

    • 4

Place the spring in the recess of the SpeedLock head, install the Bump Knob over the spring and tighten securely.

    • 5

Thread a pre-cut length of trimming line into one of the eyelet openings on the outer spool. Push the line all the way through the SpeedLock head until it comes out the eyelet opening on the other side. Pull the line through so that equal amounts of line are on either side of the SpeedLock head.

    • 6

Hold the outer spool and pull the SpeedLock away from the outer spool to unlock it. Rotate the SpeedLock clockwise until the dot printed on the SpeedLock aligns with the eyelet opening. Release the SpeedLock and allow it to snap into place and lock.
