Huskee Riding Lawn Mower Maintenance

The Huskee riding lawn mower is very similar to many other brands of riding mowers on the market. Taking care of these mowers is critical to their life expectancy. Not only do we expect them to mow the lawn but also carry the extra weight of a person. Over time, the belts wear out, the oil thickens with dirt, the blade dulls and the carburetors clog without proper maintenance. Learning to practice a few weekly habits as well as season maintenance routines should keep your Huskee riding mower in good condition.
  1. Weekly Care

    • There are things that you need to check or at least be aware of each time you ride your lawn tractor. The fluids keep the engine running and a simple look under the front lid will show you how much gas or oil is in your mower. Of course, you never want to mow without oil or the engine will seize after a few minutes. Store the mower inside out of the elements to keep the added exposure from creating rust.

    Seasonal Care

    • Once a year, you should empty out the gas tank and fill it with fresh fuel. Spray down the engine compartment with a degreaser and rinse to remove any build-up from running the mower in dusty conditions. To keep your engine running smoothly, change the oil filter and drain out the old oil. Mowing takes a toll on the blades so each season they either need a new sharpening or replacement with new blades.

    Timed Care

    • Some parts of the Huskee riding lawn mower will last closer to three years without needing any attention. Inspect the belts that pull the blades to make sure they are not cracking. The spark plug generally loses its spark after three years and needs replacing. Things like the air filter and the battery will probably need to be replaced. Oil all the moving body parts according to the directions in the owner’s manual.

    Cleaning

    • The Huskee lawn tractor needs regular cleaning, just like any other mower or auto. If you mow wet grass, the cut grass tends to stick to the inside of the deck causing it to rust. Spray it down with a regular garden hose. Wipe don the seats with a vinyl seat cleaner found in automotive stores. Clean all the plastic body parts with an all-purpose soap. A leaf blower works well to keep grass from accumulating on top of the deck.
