Park the John Deere 200 series mower and cut off the engine.
Open the John Deere's front engine hood to access the engine. Locate the flywheel near the top rear of the engine. The flywheel has a circular iron cover held in place by bolts.
Remove the John Deere 200 series mower's flywheel cover bolts with a socket wrench. Pry off the cover gently and place it to the side.
Place a flywheel pulley over the exposed flywheel and lower the pulley's arms over the outside of the flywheel. Locate the center bolt on the pulley, then rotate the bolt clockwise with your socket wrench to tighten it. The pressure from the bolt's tightening will pop the flywheel free.
Put the flywheel aside. You will now be able to view and access the top of the PTO shaft.
Disconnect the John Deere 200 series mower's oil pan from the engine. This oil pan is secured to the very bottom of the engine with several bolts. Remove these bolts with your socket wrench to disconnect the oil pan. This will reveal the bottom of the PTO shaft.
Remove the bolts along the PTO clutch shaft with your socket wrench.
Use a rubber mallet to strike the top of the John Deere PTO clutch shaft. You will need to strike the center of the top of the shaft just below where the flywheel was sitting. This will dislodge the PTO shaft.
