Turn on your snowblower. Allow it to run idle and wait as the engine warms up. You will need to continue to run the mower until the engine becomes hot.
Tighten the lock nuts securing the muffler only once the engine has become hot. Use a socket wrench to twist the bolts clockwise to tighten them properly. Tightening the bolts while the engine is already hot will help prevent the bolts from loosening over time as temperatures vary.
Tighten the bolts on the snowblower's muffler before storing it in the offseason, during the spring and summer months. This will help prevent bolt loosening as the snowblower lays idle and unused. Use your socket wrench as before to tighten the bolts.
Always store your snowblower in a dry place in the offseason. Avoid basements and similar areas, otherwise you run the risk of your snowblower rusting.
