How to Modify a Locke Reel Mower to Cut Lower

Locke is a brand of commercial or heavy-duty engine-driven lawn machines that have been manufactured in the United States since 1928. Locke makes a wide range of mower models in varying sizes, capacities and with differing features. What remains consistent across models is the adjustable-height cutting reel that allows you to customize mowing to suit your grass species, turf use and topography. Height can be adjusted downwards in ¼-inch increments, according to LockeMower.com. Lowering and raising the cutting height is simple enough that it can easily be changed as frequently as needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring the mower to a stop and turn off the engine.

    • 2

Stand behind the mower handlebar and raise the entire cutter unit off of the ground by pulling up fully on the lever attached to the cross-bar located under the handlebar.

    • 3

Push and hold the height adjustment handle located on the handler's side strut, forward against the bounce back pressure, to release the height adjustment pin to fall into the hole representing the desired lower cutting height.

    • 4

Loosen your grip on the spring loaded adjustment handle slowly to fix the pin at the new lower cutting height.

    • 5

Lower the cutting unit back to the ground by pressing out on the lever attached to the cross-bar located just under the handlebar.

    • 6

Restart the engine and proceed with your mowing.
