How to: Ferguson 35 Does Not Run At High RPMs

Ferguson 35 is the name of a vintage farm tractor manufactured by Massey Ferguson from 1960 to 1965. Many tractor enthusiasts and collectors still own and sometimes even use the Ferguson 35. If the RPMs are running low on the tractor, there are things you can do to improve engine quality. These repairs are straightforward and do not require much mechanical know-how to perform. It will take about 30 minutes to troubleshoot and get the tractor's engine back to its peak performance.

      Remove the spark plug wires on the tractor by hand and then use a spark plug wrench to remove them. Replace them with new ones if they appear dirty or corroded. Tighten them with the spark plug wrench and then replace the spark plug wires.

      Remove the wing nut holding the air filter cover in place and then lift the cover off. Put a new air filter in if the old filter is dirty.

      Locate the fuel line attached to the carburetor. Trace the Ferguson's fuel line with your fingers backward, moving toward the gas tank until you locate the fuel filter. Use a wrench to remove the fuel filter. Replace it if it is dirty. Clogged fuel filters will definitely decrease RPMs.

      Inspect the tachometer itself and tighten the tachometer cables with an adjustable wrench if they are loose.
