How to Replace a Samsung RFG297 Ice Maker

The Samsung RFG297 refrigerator is a French-door style appliance with dual side-by-side doors providing access to the refrigerator compartment, plus an additional bottom drawer that opens to provide access to the freezer section. Full replacement of the ice maker assembly within the freezer compartment may be necessary if the ice maker breaks down.       Position the Samsung RFG297 refrigerator slightly away from the wall so you can fully access the backside of the unit. Follow the water supply tube along the rear to the valve near the bottom of the appliance. This is the water shut-off valve. Twist the valve's handle counterclockwise.

      Remove the Samsung's power cable from the power outlet.

      Open the bottom freezer drawer. Remove the ice bin by sliding it out.

      Take out the screws along the top and bottom of the ice maker using your 1/4-inch hex screwdriver.

      Locate the connected electrical harnesses at the rear of the freezer compartment. One harness extends from the back of the ice maker while the other extends from the back of the freezer compartment. The two are joined together by a clasp on each of the harnesses. Press the clasps toward one another to unlock them.

      Remove the Samsung RFG297 ice maker assembly.

      Position the new ice maker assembly into the area vacated by the old.

      Follow your disassembly procedure in reverse to install the new ice maker assembly.

      Ensure the water shut-off valve is deactivated by twisting its handle clockwise.

      Plug in the Samsung RFG297's power cord.
