MTD is an American company that manufactures several models of lawn tractors, some of which are sold by different manufacturers under their own names. Although Cub Cadets made by MTD may share features with other tractors, they still use the familiar white and yellow paint scheme first used on the early 1960s models.
The Cub Cadet 1330 was produced in the early 1990s and was powered by a single cylinder Kohler engine, much like the original International Harvester-built units of the early 1960s. The 1330 is a small lawn tractor with a mower deck that cuts a 38-inch path.
The 1330's engine is mounted at the front of the tractor, and the transaxle is located at the rear. Instead of using a draft shaft, the 1330 uses a flexible drive belt. Grooved pulleys are mounted to both the engine crankshaft and the transaxle shaft. The V-belt -- so called because of the shape of the cross section of the belt -- fits around the pulleys and transfers engine power to the rear wheels. Like any flexible belt, it will wear over time and require replacement.
Replacing the drive belt with one of the correct size is imperative for the efficient transfer of power and the longevity of the drive system. A belt that is too loose may slip on the pulleys and power will be lost. A belt that is too tight may put too much strain on the engine crankshaft and the transaxle shaft, causing damage over time. The correct drive belt replacement is 90 inches long and has a Cub Cadet part number of 954-3037.
The cutting deck of the Cub Cadet 1330 is also powered by a flexible belt. Power from an engine pulley is transferred to the twin cutting blades within the deck by a 63 inch long V-belt with a Cub Cadet part number of 954-3036.
