How to Adjust the Wheels on a John Deere GT245

The John Deere GT245 riding mower uses a model 54C mowing deck attachment. The deck has four wheels that prevent it from scraping the ground over uneven terrain. The wheels should make contact with bumpy ground and lift the deck. When changing the mowing height you may need to adjust the wheels. Unlike many mower decks, the deck for the John Deere GT245 uses wheel legs that move up and down for quick adjustments.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the John Deere mower on a level part of your yard or on a driveway. This is necessary so both the rear and front wheels adjust correctly. Set the parking brake and take the key out of the ignition.

    • 2

Lower the mower deck to the desired cutting height. Measure from the bottom of one wheel to the ground with a tape measure. The distance should be between 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

    • 3

Pull the locking pin handle out of the mower deck's wheel leg. The locking pin is the long pin securing the leg to the sleeve.

    • 4

Move the leg up to increase the distance, or down to decrease the distance between the bottom of the wheel and the ground. Push the locking pin back into the sleeve and into the nearest hole on the leg.

    • 5

Repeat the process for the remaining three wheels.
