Opinions of GT Series John Deere Mowers

Starting in 1837, John Deere used his blacksmithing skills to build equipment to help farmers sow and harvest their crops. Today, the company he founded continues to manufacture yard and farm equipment such as mowers, tractors and harvesters. From 1992 to 2003, its line of mowers included the GT Series.
  1. GT Series Basics

    • The GT series consists of a line of eight riding mowers. The mowers are intended for areas of grass that are four acres or less. The main differences in the eight mowers include engine size, cutting width and engine type. Each of the mowers in the GT series takes a variety of attachments such as baggers, rear carts and snow blowers.

    Positive Opinions

    • Reviewers from Tractor & Lawn Mower Review praise the GT series power and reliability. Mowers with larger engines had the best ability to cut tall grass. People who posted on the site said the controls are easy to access and that they have no difficulty installing attachments. Most people state the mowers require little maintenance and that they would buy another one.

    Negative Opinions

    • As engine size increases, such as in the GT325, the main complaint included the mowers going through a lot of gasoline. However, those that used the smallest engine (GT225) wished the mower had a little more power. Choosing a model with a mid-sized engine such as the GT262 could solve these complaints. Other complaints include the seat being too low and the headlights not being bright enough. Some users say the plastic parts on the mowers break easily and replacement parts are expensive.

    Average Ratings

    • Of the mowers in the GT series that earned ratings, each earned high marks for most ratings. Performance and reliability average 4.5 out of 5 stars. Overall customer satisfaction rated 4.5 to 5 stars for the reviewed models. The GT225, GT275 and GT375 all ranked 5 stars for safety. The GT262 ranked lowest in safety with only 3 stars possibly because of its headlights and lack of backing and brake lights.
