Run the lawn mower until the gas tank is nearly empty so that the gas tank will not leak during inspection and repairs. Come to a complete stop, turn off the lawn mower and allow the engine to cool completely.
Remove the spark plug cap from the spark plug.
Examine the area where the engine meets the deck to confirm that the engine is securely mounted. Inspect all bolts to verify that none are broken or missing.
Turn the mower onto its side and look at the underside.
Use a flat-blade tool, such as a paint scraper, to remove the grass and debris from the underside of the mower.
Inspect the blade for damage. Replace the blade if it is damaged beyond repair.
Ensure that the blade is securely tightened.
