How to Remove the Chain From a John Deere LA145 Mower

If you own a John Deere LA145 model mower that you drive over slick surfaces with, then you may have tire chains installed. Tire chains are metal chain links that connect to the tires, either front or rear, and are commonly used with snow blowers and sometimes used with mowers. The tire chain links also help provide traction for the tires. If you no longer need the chains on your tires, you can manually remove them at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Park your John Deere LA145 mower on a level service and set the parking brake in the "Lock" position.

    • 2

Turn off the mower and remove the key from the ignition. Locate the tire on the mower that has the chains you want to remove.

    • 3

Disconnect the fastener rod that is located and connected to the rim of the tire by rotating it 180 degrees then pulling it off of the hook.

    • 4

Pull the chain link from under the tire and unravel it so it becomes loose.

    • 5

Remove the hook ends from the chain that connect part of the chain to the tire and rim to disengage the entire chain.

    • 6

Lift up and remove the chain from the tire. Remove the chains from the other tires on the mower by following the same procedure.
