What Size Are the Nuts on an MX8 John Deere Mower?

The John Deere MX8 mower is an attachment for a tractor that cuts large areas of grass in one pass. The MX8 model cuts a width of 96 inches and cuts grass up to 12 inches high down to 2 inches. The MX8 uses a variety of nuts to assemble it, ranging from ¼ inch to 1½ inches for four types of MX8 models. To install new nuts properly, make sure the fastener threads are clean and intact. Use a clean rag to wipe the threads before installing the new nuts.
  1. Lift-Type Center Drive

    • On the MX8 lift-type center drive model, the axle support requires two 542 N-m V-bolt lock nuts. The tail wheels require four ½-by-1½-inch round lock nuts, 100 N-m specification. The hitch requires an M24 jam nut. The intermediate driveline uses a 150 N-m tapered pin lock nut. The brace assembly used a M20-by-60mm and 1-by-4-inch lock nut. The PTO (power take off) driveline uses a tapered pin lock nut, specification 150 N-m.

    Pull-Type Center Drive

    • On the pull-type center drive model, the tail wheels require four ½-by-1½-inch round lock nuts, 100 N-m specification. The hitch requires an M10-by-30mm lock nut, and the bell crank uses an M20 lock nut. The hitch requires an M24 jam nut. The intermediate and PTO driveline uses a 150 N-m tapered pin lock nut.

    Semi-Mount Center Drive

    • The semi-mount center drive model of the MX8 requires nuts on the axle support and tail wheels. The axle support uses two M20 V-bolt lock nuts. The tail wheels require four ½-by-1½-inch round lock nuts, 100 N-m specification. The PTO driveline’s input shaft uses a tapered pin lock nut, specification 150 N-m. The hose holder on this model uses an 11-by-30-by-2mm lock nut.

    Semi-Mount with Hydraulic Offset

    • The MX8 with the semi-mount center drive with a hydraulic offset requires nuts on the hitch and hose holder. The hitch arm requires a M20-by-100mm lock nut. The hose holder uses an 11-by-30-by-2mm lock nut.

    Front and Rear Safety Shields

    • The MX8 models have two front safety shields: chain or rubber. The chain front safety shield requires a C-lock nut, M10 specification. The chain rear safety shield requires a B-lock nut, M10. The rubber front and rear safety shield requires a B-lock nut, M10 specification.
