How to Loosen Blade Nuts on a Snapper Mower

Snapper mowers must be kept in good working order for reasons of safety and efficiency. Extended use of a mower wears the cutting blade down, as does damage from hard objects it hits while in operation. Mower blades eventually need sharpening or changing. To do this, the nuts, along with the bolts and washers, must be removed so the blade can be taken off the mower for servicing.

Things You'll Need

  • Heavy-duty safety gloves
  • Container for gasoline
  • Piece of scrap wood
  • Socket or ratchet wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of heavy-duty safety gloves.

    • 2

Unhook the spark plug wire on your Snapper mower.

    • 3

Empty the fuel tank. Pour the gasoline into a safe container and move it away from your work area, since gas spills can create a safety hazard.

    • 4

Turn the Snapper mower over for access to the blade.

    • 5

Stabilize the blade so it won't move as you are loosening the fasteners. Obstruct the movement of the blade with a scrap piece of wood wedged between the blade and the mower deck.

    • 6

Locate the two bolt heads on the front side of the blade and the two washers and two nuts that are threaded on the bolt on the back side of the blade.

    • 7

Use a socket or ratchet wrench to loosen the nut, twisting in a counterclockwise motion. Continue unscrewing the nut until it is removed from the bolt.
