How Does a Dixon Mulching Kit Work?

The Dixon company manufactures riding mowers for home and professional use. These mowers come in different models and sizes for performing a variety of specialized functions. In addition to manufacturing mowers, Dixon produces a variety of mower attachments and accessories, such as mower covers, double and triple grass-catching bags for large jobs, and mulching kits. Mulching kits use relatively simple technology to help eliminate the need for disposing of grass clippings.
  1. Mulching Kit Basics

    • Mulching kits attach to Dixon lawnmowers, turning grass clippings into mulch and depositing it back on your lawn. Mulch is any material placed on the surface of your garden soil or lawn to protect or improve the quality of soil and plants. Organic mulch provides nutrients to soil and plants as it decays, improving the health of your lawn and garden. By turning grass clippings into mulch, Dixon mulching kits not only eliminate the need for clean up, but they also benefit your garden by providing mulch.

    How It Works

    • Mulching kits work in a very simple way. They attach to any Dixon mower at the top of the mower deck. The deck is the part of mower that houses the blades -- it usually hangs from the bottom of a Dixon mower. When your Dixon mower blades cut grass, they send the clippings flying throughout the deck. The mulch kit catches grass clippings as they come flying off the blades, chops them into mulch and deposits them back onto your lawn.

    Mulching Kit Technology

    • Mulching kits are based on the same basic technology as the mower itself -- blades. A mulching kit contains one, two or three blades, depending on the size and type of the mower. Generally speaking, the larger the mower blades, the more blades a mulching kit contains. Grass clippings from a Dixon mower fly into the blades of a mulching kit, which shreds the clippings into tiny pieces. An exhaust system on the mulching kit takes the shredded grass and drops it from your mower back on the lawn as mulch.

    Purchasing Mulching Kits

    • Dixon mowers do not come with a mulching kit as standard equipment. For an extra cost, you can order a mower with a mulching kit from the company or from an approved retailer. You can also order a mulching kit yourself and attach it to your Dixon mower. You can only purchase Dixon mowers and parts from approved retailers or dealers. For a list of approved retailers and dealers in your area, contact Dixon or visit the company’s website.
