Anatomy of a Snapper Mower

Founded as Southern Saw Works in 1894, Snapper Incorporated is one of the oldest existing lawn maintenance manufacturers in the United States. Currently, Snapper produces four types of lawn mowers: push mowers, riding mowers, lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers. Snapper mower types have different specs in terms of size, displacement and source of power. However, all Snapper models have the company's iconic red paint on the mowers' exteriors.
  1. Push Mower

    • A push mower is the only Snapper model that is not designed for riding. All Snapper push mowers feature bars for handling and a lever for self propulsion. The largest models of Snapper push mowers in terms of cutting widths are the SPX and SE Series; both series have 22-inch cutting widths. The Snapper Hi-Vac push mower sucks up leaves and sticks during the mowing process, which results in a cleaner yard. Snapper push mowers have 14-gauge steel mower decks. Other Snapper push mowers are the NXT Series and Ninja Series.

    Lawn Tractors

    • Lawn tractors are the largest of the Snapper mower models. The length of Snapper's largest lawn tractors, such as LT125 and LT130 AWS series, ranges between 70 to 71 inches, while the width of these tractors is between 52 to 57 inches. The wheel base of the LT130 AWS and LT125 lawn tractors is 48 to 50 inches, respectively. An LT125 mower deck offers a cutting width of 42 to 46 inches, while the LT130 AWS has a 46-inch cutting width. All of Snapper's lawn tractors have circular steering wheels, and their engines are at the front of the tractors. Other Snapper lawn tractor models are the NXT and SPX series.

    Riding Mower

    • A riding mower is the smallest of Snapper's riding lawn mower models. The RE Riders' models have cutting widths ranging between 28 to 33 inches, while the average length of RE Riders is 64 inches. Riding mowers are electric, as opposed to lawn tractors, which rely on gasoline for power. Also, a Snapper's riding mower engine is located underneath the driver's seat. Riding mowers have rectangular-shaped steering wheels. The wheelbase width of RE Riders' mowers is 46 inches. The RE 200 mower is smaller than models in the Snapper's RE Riders series; the cutting width for RE 200 mowers is 30 inches.

    Zero-Turn Mower

    • Zero-turn-radius mowers. or zero-turn mowers, have a turn radius of zero inches, meaning it is able turn without moving from its current spot. This is different from riding mowers or lawn tractors, which require wider turn radiuses for turning. Zero-turn mower riders navigate the mower by using right or left levers rather than a steering wheel. While most Snapper zero-turn mowers are smaller than lawn tractors, the 285Z zero-turn is the largest Snapper mower currently being manufactured. The 285Z has a cutting width of 52 inches and a length of 75 inches. The engines of Snapper zero-turn mowers are underneath the driver's seat.
