How to Start a Cub Cadet 1028

The Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower can be started with either an electric or recoil start via the starter handle, although there are a number of pre-start alterations to the engine that are also necessary. These include the manipulation of the auger control, traction control, throttle control and choke knob. Fortunately, you can make all these adjustments and start your Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower successfully whether you are working with a warm engine or going from a cold start.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the fuel shutoff valve on the Cub Cadet 1028 engine. It is located under the fuel tank. Ensure this valve is in the closed, or vertical, position.

    • 2

Attach the Cub Cadet 1028's spark plug wire to the spark plug. This is a thin black wire that connects to the rear of the spark plug on the right side of the engine.

    • 3

Ensure the auger control on the snow blower's left handle is in the disengaged position. Similarly, ensure the traction control on the blower's right handle is also disengaged.

    • 4

Place the ignition key into the Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower. The key goes into the engine directly below the choke knob and in front of the throttle control on the front section of the engine. Do not turn the key.

    • 5

Move the throttle control lever up into the "FAST" position. The throttle control is directly in front and slightly below the ignition key.

    • 6

Manipulate the engine's choke knob. The choke should be in the on or "Full" position if you are attempting to do a cold engine start. If the engine has been running recently and is already warm, turn the choke knob to the "Off" position.

    • 7

Prime the Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower. Find the primer button on the side of the engine, just above the throttle control. Press the primer button three times if the engine is cold, and only once if it is warm.

    • 8

Connect the Cub Cadet 1028's power cord to the switch box on the back of the engine to prepare for an electric start. Connect the other end of the power cord to a three-hole, grounded power receptacle.

    • 9

Start the Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower with an electric start by pushing the starter button on the front of the engine and releasing it when the engine starts. Disconnect the power cord from the power receptacle once the engine starts.

    • 10

Start the Cub Cadet 1028 snow blower with a recoil start by slowly pulling the starter handle on the side of the engine that is located beside the primer. Once you feel resistance, begin to pull the starter handle more quickly. Do not let the handle snap back after pulling.

    • 11

Rotate the Cub Cadet 1028's choke knob back to the "Off" position once the engine is warm and not sputtering.
