How to Change an Irrigation Sprinkler Head

A sprinkler head is an attachment that connects to a series of irrigation pipes under the ground. These pipes provide water to lawns and fields. Over time it is possible for the sprinkler head to become damaged or cease to function. In these instances it is best to replace the sprinkler head completely. This can be accomplished without digging up your entire lawn.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the valve on the sprinkler water line to shut off the water supply to the sprinkler.

    • 2

Lift the sprinkler head out of the center of the sprinkler assembly. This is only done if the sprinkler is a "pop up" sprinkler head.

    • 3

Turn the sprinkler head counterclockwise to remove it.

    • 4

Remove the old filter from the sprinkler assembly by sliding it out.

    • 5

Fit a new filter, one compatible with your sprinkler system, in the assembly.

    • 6

Fit a new sprinkler head, compatible with your assembly, over the filter and turn it clockwise to screw it in.
