Instructions

    • 1

Install a wood arched trellis or arbor over the walkway to create a focal point that draws the eye without taking too much space. Train climbing plants over the trellis, hook a lantern to it or string garden lights around the top of it for added effect.

    • 2

Line the pathway that connects the driveway to the porch with small flowerpots. Space the containers evenly along the opposite sides of the path and grow identical tall or trailing plants that liven up the space and add bursts of natural color to the landscape. Avoid using large containers that stand out. They make the space appear cluttered and draw the eye to the limited space.

    • 3

Set small statues of various woodland animals, such as cats, rabbits, deer or frogs, in the corners of the lawn or the fence, near a bush or flower bed, under a tree or along the ends of the pathway to add a whimsical touch to the space. Alternatively, set a small tiered fountain that adds waterscaping into the small lawn without taking too much space.

String twinkle lights in shrubs or trees in the front lawn to illuminate the lawn and add a magical touch to the space. Alternatively, install solar lights in corners of the lawn for nighttime appeal, or add spotlights in the corners of the lawn to create the illusion of depth.

    • 5

Set a low-profile garden bench in a corner of the front lawn, with its back against the boundary fence or wall. Available in variety of styles, such benches provide comfortable seating without taking up too much space. Remove existing vegetation under the bench and spread a tarp filled with crushed quartz so you don’t have to mow the area.

Stagger pots in a corner of the lawn to add depth to the space. Place three or four large pots in the back, four medium-size pots in the middle and smaller pots in the front. Not only do the pots spruce up dull or empty corners in the lawn, they increase growing space and create the perception of a bigger space.
