Ensure the spark plug is properly connected on the right side of the Kohler CV13S motor. There is a small, black wire on this side of the motor that should be inserted into the spark plug. This is the ignition wire. Slide the ignition wire back into the rear of the Kohler CV13S motor's spark plug if it has come loose.
Examine the Kohler CV13S motor's spark plug and ensure it is in good condition. The spark plug must not have corrosion on its end, and its white band should not be blistered or have black spots. These are indications that the spark plug is faulty. Replace the plug by disconnecting the ignition wire and then reconnecting this wire into the rear of a new spark plug.
Check to ensure the Kohler CV13S motor's solenoid is properly connected. Two terminal wires lead from the battery back to the solenoid on the engine. Each wire extends to a separate side of the solenoid, where they must be connected over the bolt on each side. Reattach the terminal wires to their respective bolts if they have come loose from the solenoid. Place the end of each terminal wire over the bolt on the side of the solenoid, then fasten the wire into place by twisting the bolt clockwise with a socket wrench.
Find the Kohler CV13S motor's carburetor bowl. The distinctive bowl shape of this part stands out along the left side of the engine. If the nut on the bottom of the bowl is leaking, this is an indicator that engine starting issues and noisy sputtering problems are linked to the carburetor. Position a dish under the Kohler CV13S carburetor bowl's nut.
Turn the nut counterclockwise with your socket wrench to loosen it. This will drain the carburetor. Wait as the excess fluids drain out around the nut and into your dish.
Tighten the nut back within the Kohler CV13S motor's carburetor bowl with clockwise turns of your socket wrench. The Kohler engine will now run smoothly.
