Nelson Rotary Lawn Sprinkler Adjustment Instructions

Nelson is a subsidiary company of Bosch, a German manufacturer of home and automotive products. Nelson has been in the lawn-watering business since 1911. The Nelson rotary sprinkler is typically part of a lawn-watering system that includes underground water pipes and sprinklers installed throughout your lawn at various locations. The Nelson rotary sprinkler delivers a circular spray pattern that is adjustable to fit your lawn-watering needs.
  1. Remove the Protective Cap

    • Before the sprinkler can be adjusted or a nozzle installed, the protective cap on top of the exposed sprinkler head must be removed to access the inner components. To remove the cap, gently pull it up by hand until the groove in the sprinkler housing appears. A clamp that is included with the sprinkler is inserted into the groove to keep the cap in the raised position. The cap can then be twisted counterclockwise until it stops then lifted straight off the sprinkler turret. If your sprinkler does not have a nozzle installed on it, you can add one at this time by loosening the nozzle retaining screw, inserting the nozzle into the hole then tightening the retaining screw fully.

    Click-Set Disc

    • The click-set disc inside your Nelson rotary sprinkler provides a full 360-degree spray pattern and is also adjustable to half-circles of between 40 to 310 degrees. If you need a full 360-degree watering pattern, leave the black side of the disc face-up. To adjust to half-circle patterns, the disc must be removed. Once this is done, the nozzle can then be turned to point to the center of the desired watering pattern. Push the disc back onto the nozzle with the gray side face-up then move the arms on the memory ring to match the desired pattern. Once all the adjustments have been made, the protective cap can be twisted until it clicks back into place.

    Quick Adjustment

    • You can make quick adjustments to the sprinkler turret by simply twisting the turret in the desired direction to change the direction of the spray in a half-circle pattern. This can be done with the water on or off due to a ratcheting mechanism in the turret that prevents damage to the sprinkler.

    Diffuser Screw

    • A small screw in the side of the sprinkler can be turned with a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust the spray pattern. Turning the diffuser screw will increase or decrease the spray pattern from a fine mist to a more substantial spray for larger lawns or areas that are prone to windy conditions.
