How to Fix a Husqvarna Mower That Is Winding Out?

Husqvarna line trimmers use a rapidly spinning length of plastic cord to chop weeds, grass and light brush. Line begins to wind out from the cutting head if it has not been installed correctly. Removing the cutting head and correctly installing fresh line is the quickest way to solve this common problem. Husqvarna provides accurate instructions for installing line to the cutting head. Be sure to follow them each time.

Switch off the trimmer and lie it on the ground with the cutting head facing up. Pinch the sides of the plastic cap covering the spool of cutting line and lift upward. Take the spool off the trimmer.

    • 2

Cut 20 feet of new 0.095- or 0.106-inch-thick plastic line. Bring the ends of the line together, and make one side 4 inches longer than the other. Loop the end of the line over the plastic hook on the spool.

    • 3

Neatly wind the line around the spool making sure not to cross the ends over. Stop when there is 6 inches of line remaining on each end. Hook the ends through the clips on the bottom of the spool.

    • 4

Place the spool back onto the trimmer and snap the plastic cap back into place. It makes a snap sound when it is properly seated. The new line is ready for use. This method prevents the line winding out.
