How to Adjust Toro Snowblower Chains

The Toro snowblower features a drive chain that is partially responsible for the successful operation of the motor. The drive chain can become loose over time, and this will cause the snowblower to fail. You can perform immediate adjustment of the drive chain with just a few tools. Professional aid is not required for repairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the Toro snowblower is on a level surface. Turn off its engine.

    • 2

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the plate beneath the Toro's motor. Slide the plate off to reveal the drive chain.

    • 3

Loosen the top bolt on the spring-loaded idler plate, which is located beneath the drive chain and is shaped like a wheel, using a socket wrench.

    • 4

Slide a ratchet into the idle plate's square hole. Turn this ratchet clockwise to tighten the drive chain. Continue tightening the chain only until you feel resistance while turning. The chain does not need to be tightened further.

    • 5

Tighten the top bolt on the idler plate using your socket wrench.

    • 6

Fasten the plate back onto the Toro motor's bottom with your Phillips screwdriver.
