How to Repair Belts on the Snowblower 72442

The Husqvarna snow blower 72442 features a belt strung and kept taut through a system of pulleys at the front of the machine. This belt can require repair and potential replacement due either to dirt buildup or wear and tear. You should be able to remove the snow blower's belt for repair or replacement even if you have no experience with fixing snow blowers.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the engine of the snowblower.

    • 2

Remove the screws holding the cover over the plastic belt on the front of the snow blower with the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the cover off with your hands. This will reveal the belt looped among the snow blower's pulleys.

    • 3

Find the nut on the bottom pulley and use a socket wrench to loosen it. Do not remove the nut. Pull up on the belt to slide it off the snow blower's top pulley. Work the belt down through the other pulleys to remove it entirely.

    • 4

Remove dirt and debris build-up from the belt with a clean cloth. This should restore the belt to working order. If the belt is noticeably worn or broken, dispose of it in favor of a new belt.

    • 5

Place the existing belt or a replacement belt onto the snow blower's bottom pulley. Re-route the belt through the pulleys in the same manner it was previously routed. Keep the belt tight throughout the process.

    • 6

Feed the belt back out of the top pulley. Keep the belt tight, then tighten the bottom pulley's nut back up with clockwise turns from the socket wrench.

    • 7

Put the cover back over the snow blower's belt and pulley system. Use the Philips screwdriver to reinsert the cover's screws.
