How to Replace the Coil on a Toro Power Clear

The Toro Power Clear snow blower cannot operate properly and move snow out of your yard's walkways and driveway unless a working coil is in place on the Toro engine. You can remove an old coil and replace it with a new, working part regardless of your experience with snow blower repair. Professional tools are not required for troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop the Toro Power Clear snow blower and ensure the engine has been turned off.

    • 2

Find the coil by tracing the spark plug's ignition wire from the distributor cap's center back to the distributor on the Toro engine's coil. The coil is located directly in front of the distinctive, wheel-shaped engine flywheel.

    • 3

Grab the rubber tip on the end of the ignition wire where it connects to the coil. Pull this boot off the coil to disconnect the wire.

    • 4

Loosen and remove the nut on either side of the coil with an open-end wrench. A wire is connected to each nut. Disconnect the two side wires from the coil once their nuts have been removed.

    • 5

Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts clamping the coil down against the engine block. Pull the coil off the engine.

    • 6

Place a new coil into the same spot just vacated by the old coil. Insert the bolts with your socket wrench to secure the coil in place on the engine block.

    • 7

Follow your wire disassembly steps in reverse to connect the wires to the coil appropriately.
