How to Install a Rubber Cover on a Gas Primer for a Toro Snow Blower

The rubber cover, or bulb, over the gas primer is the piece that depresses when you push the primer to send gas into your Toro snow blower's engine prior to ignition. Over time, the rubber cover on your snow blower can wear out, requiring replacement. However, this is a relatively simple fix that does not require the costly aid of a professional. Homeowners can install a new rubber cover on your Toro snow blower's gas primer with minimal prior troubleshooting experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the snowblower engine is cut off. Find the spark plug on the top of the engine block. Pull the thin, black ignition wire out from the rear of the Toro's spark plug as a safety precaution.

    • 2

Remove the Toro snow blower's cover by loosening and removing the screws that secure it. You can remove these screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Remove the screws immediately surrounding the primer's rubber cover with your Phillips screwdriver. These are the screws that secure the cover in place. Pull off the cover once these screws have been removed.

    • 4

Position the new, replacement primer cover into place where the former cover previously resided. Insert the screws around the cover to secure it.

    • 5

Set the snow blower's cover back into place and re-insert its screws. Reconnect the ignition wire into the rear of the spark plug.
