How to Repair a RainKing Traveling Sprinkler

A RainKing traveling sprinkler is a rotating sprinkler connected to a hose that moves around on a lawn when operating. This allows the lawn to receive water in all areas without the installation of an underground sprinkler system or manual placement of a non-traveling manual sprinkler system by the homeowner. While the traveling sprinkler should work well once installed correctly, problems may arise such as slow-moving sprinkler or low water pressure. These issues and others can often be repaired with basic troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the hose size. Smaller hoses may not allow the sprinkler to travel as needed. Use a 5/8-inch hose or larger.

    • 2

Disconnect the garden hose from the traveling sprinkler if the sprinkler is not working as expected. Pull down on the stopper, located on the base of the sprinkler motor. Set the sprinkler back on the shut-off ramp and reconnect the garden hose. Restart the water supply.

    • 3

Point the sprinkler arms in opposite 30-degree rotations prior to starting the sprinkler if the arms are not spraying the lawn effectively. Set the left arm with the end pointed down and the right arm with the end pointed up.

    • 4

Make larger turns on the hose path if the sprinkler gets stuck during turns or does not travel along the hose line as expected. Put the front wheels in front of the hose. Arrange the hose between the rear wheels prior to starting the water.

    • 5

Keep the shut-off ramp where the sprinkler should stop. Maintain a minimum of 5 feet straight hose on each side of the ramp.

    • 6

Turn off the sprinkler. Remove the filter if the water pressure seems low or the filter is clogged. Wash the filter and dry it thoroughly before replacing the traveling sprinkler.

    • 7

Set the sprinkler on the drain end after each use. Allow it to drain for at least five minutes before setting the sprinkler back up to avoid having water in the sprinkler.
