How to Install a Sprinkler Box

Sprinkler boxes, or irrigation control boxes, are made out of plastic and are designed to cover and protect your sprinkler manifold assembly. Since the manifold is where all of your valves and control lines are located, it's important to keep them protected from the elements. Control boxes are placed in the ground, and are partially buried to keep them secure. Since no two valve assemblies are exactly alike, it's important to measure your valve and select the right size box for your system.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove about 1-foot of dirt that's at least 6 inches deep from around the base of the sprinkler manifold. Be very careful not to puncture any of the supply lines, which can be seen coming out of the manifold itself.

    • 2

Remove the lid to the sprinkler control box by pulling up on the green tab on one side.

    • 3

Place the box over the manifold, making sure to align the hole for the supply lines with the lines themselves.

    • 4

Press down on the box with your foot to seat it in the ground.

    • 5

Pour river rocks or decorative rocks inside the box, using enough rocks to cover the dirt directly underneath the manifold. This will make a neater appearance and keep dirt from becoming a muddy mess.

    • 6

Replace the dirt around the outside of the box until the dirt is level with the surrounding ground.

    • 7

Place the lid on the box. If desired, you can insert a bolt into the small hole in the lid to secure the box from vandals.
