How to Apply Roundup to Weeds

Roundup is a grass and weedkiller from The Scotts Co., which also manufactures and sells Miracle-Gro. When Roundup is applied, it kills any vegetation that it contacts. Active ingredients in the weedkiller include pelargonic and glyphosate. If you want to plant after the application, wait three days so that the herbicide does not kill your new plantings. Roundup is available in a refillable Pump 'N Go container that does not require a separate sprayer or dilution of the herbicide.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on gloves and either boots or long pants to cover your legs so you don't get any of the Roundup on your skin.

    • 2

Connect the hose to the pump on the Roundup bottle, if you have not already done so. It secures into place with a firm push.

    • 3

Lift the sprayer wand from the bottle and pull out the nozzle while pressing the yellow button. When the yellow button displays the "Spray" position, you have fully extended the sprayer wand.

    • 4

Turn the handle on the bottle to make sure it is on tightly and then pump the handle 15 times for a full bottle or 20 times for a less than full bottle. This pressurizes the bottle to give you a long spraying duration. The more times you pump the handle, the longer you can spray at once. Put the handle down and turn clockwise, which is the carrying position, when you finish pumping the handle and are ready to apply the Roundup.

    • 5

Aim the wand sprayer away from your body and at the weeds. Push the white button with your thumb, which activates the spraying. Move the wand back and forth over the weeds until they are wet from the Roundup.
