Install a pressure-regulating valve between the water source and the sprinkler if water comes out in a mist, indicating too much water pressure, or if the caps on the sprinklers repeatedly split.
Compare the gallons per minute requirement for the sprinkler zone with the available gallons per minute from the water source. If the available gallons per minute does not meet the flow requirement for the zone, disable and remove excess sprinkler heads to reduce the zone requirement to the level of available water.
Reduce the amount of water flow to the sprinkler if the sprinkler heads will not hold their setting.
Flush the sprinkler head to remove debris if the head fails to fully retract or the sprayer leaks between the cap and barrel. Replace the head if flushing does not eliminate the leak or allow the head to fully retract.
Verify that the installed sprinkler head is rated at the desired distance if the reach of the water is not far enough. If the head is properly rated, flush the sprinkler head to remove debris that may be clogging the spray.
