Instructions for a Hunter SRM Sprinkler

Hunter is among the largest manufacturers of home and commercial irrigation supplies in the country. One of its products is called the SRM rotary sprinkler. These sprinklers are designed to use water pressure to move a series of internal gears. These gears move the head of the sprayer back and forth over a set pattern. SRM sprinklers come with six nozzles with different flow rates for a totally custom sprinkler. Adjustments to the SRM are identical to the PGP line of Hunter sprinklers.
  1. Radius

    • You can adjust the radius, or how far the water is thrown, by using the radius adjustment tool. This tool looks like a plastic handle with a metal piece at the end. The adjustment tool comes with every new SRM sprinkler head. The SRM includes a slot in the head of the sprinkler where the tool is inserted. By turning the key either direction, you can set the radius that the sprinkler will spray, up to 25 percent of the total distance of the pre-set nozzle.

    Throw Distance

    • The Hunter SRM comes with a set of nozzles that are pre-set to throw water at specific distances. These nozzles can be changed easily by inserting the adjustment key into the top of the nozzle and pulling the old one straight up from the body of the sprinkler. To insert a new nozzle, select the one that is rated for the desired throw distance and insert it into the top of the nozzle. Press down to click the new nozzle into place.

    Arc Adjustment

    • The SRM allows you to set the arc, or circular pattern of the sprinkler, from 40 degrees to 360 degrees. This gives you control over the exact pattern of the sprinkler at any time. The SRM can be adjusted while running, when dry, when raised or when lowered into the ground. This makes the SRM one of the simplest sprinklers to adjust. Adjustment requires the use of the adjustment tool, inserted into the arc control slot on top of the nozzle.

    Maintenance

    • The SRM sprinkler head contains a large plastic filter inside the body. This filter traps dirt and other debris inside the sprinkler so that it does not clog the sprayer. Occasionally, the filter can become jammed with dirt and needs to be cleaned. The SRM filter can be removed by removing the retaining nut on the sprinkler body, pulling out the internal components and pulling out the filter. Clean filters will maximize the performance of the SRM.
