How to Block Another From Parking on Your Lawn

A lawn that is driven or parked on on a regular basis becomes a grassless area, which results in mud when it is wet and dusty soil when it is dry. If the person parking on your lawn won't stop doing it after discussing the situation with him, then other steps must be taken. A positive way to accomplish your desire is to inexpensively block access to the lawn.

  • Railroad ties
  • Metal spikes
  • Maul
  • 2-by-4 wood studs

Instructions

    • 1

Place large stones at least 12 inches in diameter every 18 to 24 inches along the access point. A landscaping center should sell appropriate stones.

    • 2

Set a railroad tie across the access point. Make the tie hard to remove by driving a spike thorough the tie with a maul and into the ground. Extend the ties as long as you need them along the access point.

    • 3

Plant 2-by-4-inch wooden posts 24 inches deep into the ground every 18 to 24 inches. Leave at least 18 inches of stud sticking up from the lawn. Paint the studs with a bright color such as red or yellow to warn people of their presence, or put small reflectors on them. Alternately, place the 2-by-4 posts every 48 inches and string rope or chain through an metal eyelet screwed into the tops of the studs. Hang reflectors from the chain.

Call the police and explain that someone is trespassing on your lawn and parked a car there. This will not work if the car belongs to someone who lives in the home, but if it is a neighbor who has been told not to park there the police can issue a ticket.
