How to Apply Lawn Repair Mix

Dead patches in the lawn may have a variety of causes -- fungus, diseases, insect infestation, or damage caused by your pet. Once you remedy the cause of the damage, apply a lawn repair mix to patches throughout the lawn to restore the grass to a lush, green state. Lawn repair mix products are found in any garden or home improvement store, and they are easy to use to repair your lawn.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply repair mix to the lawn during the fall or spring months, since grass seed germinates most successfully in mild temperatures.

    • 2

Loosen the top 3 inches of soil within the damaged area using a gardening claw or screwdriver. If your soil is unhealthy, add a nutrient-rich seeding soil to the damaged area, and mix it as you loosen the soil.

    • 3

Spread the lawn repair mix to the damaged area. Apply the mix sparingly, so it is not more than 1/2 inch deep over the loosened soil.

    • 4

Water the patches after you apply the repair mix. After initial application, water the patches twice a day until new grass seeds sprout through the soil. Spray the area with a misting attachment for 10 minutes twice a day to prevent flooding new roots.
