How to Tune a Cub Cadet Tractor

The Cub Cadet tractor is a riding lawn mower. Periodically the Cub Cadet needs routine maintenance to help it to run better. If the Cub Cadet tractor begins to misfire, backfire or will not start at all, it may be time for a tune-up. A tune-up on the Cub Cadet involves replacing the spark plugs and changing the oil. Instructions

    • 1

Open the Club Cadet engine cover. Find the lower oil drain plug on the bottom left side of the Cadet's engine.

    • 2

Slide the drop pan under the drain plug.

    • 3

Open the protective cap on the drain plug and then push the oil drain hose into the end of the plastic drain port. Squeeze in the two plastic tabs on the side. Allow the old oil to drain out.

    • 4

Add 2.5 quarts of fresh oil to your Cub Cadet.

    • 5

Turn the oil filter to the left using an oil filter wrench until it comes free. Hand thread the new oil filter into place and tighten it with the filter wrench.

    • 6

Remove the boots from each spark plug wire with a pair of pliers. The plugs are located on both sides of the lower part of the engine block. Remove the old plugs with the spark plug wrench.

    • 7

Set the gap on the new plugs to .030 inches with the spark gap setting tool and then hand thread them in and then tighten with the spark plug wrench. Replace the spark plug boots to each plug and then shut the engine cover.
