How to Write a Groundskeeping Contract

The groundskeeper for your business is basically in charge of taking care of all the outdoor areas, such as the lawn, shrubs, trees, mulch and possibly deck or porch area. A groundskeeper can be hired by an individual business, an office park, a park, an academic or government institution, an athletic stadium or any other space that has an outdoor area that requires maintenance. When you hire a groundskeeper, you should write a contract so that there is never any confusion about what your groundskeeper is in charge of.

Instructions

    • 1

List the name of your company or institution, along with the contact information, at the top of the contract. Include the name and contact information for the groundskeeper you're hiring below that.

    • 2

Write a brief description of the groundskeeper position. Include things like the amount of square footage the groundskeeper will maintain and the primary areas that need to be maintained, such as the lawn and landscaped areas.

    • 3

Include a list of the primary responsibilities that the groundskeeper will have. This should include all specific duties that the groundskeeper will be expected to perform. For example, along with lawn maintenance, the groundskeeper may need to mow, remove weeds and water, as well as remove leaves in the fall.

    • 4

Add the terms of the contract. This includes details like how much the groundskeeper will be paid, how often the groundskeeper will be paid, the duration of the contract, how the groundskeeper's work will be evaluated and how the contract can be terminated by either party.

    • 5

Allow extra space at the bottom of the contract for the groundskeeper to sign and date and for you, or the person hiring the groundskeeper, to sign and date.
