How to Mow a Small Plot of Grass

If you have only a small plot of grass to maintain, the time you spend mowing will be minimal. If you take the time to mow the grass correctly, you can take pride in your small plot of land. While your property may be small, it still needs the same amount of care and attention that larger plots of grass require to stay healthy and strong.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a mower that redistributes the grass clippings back onto your small lawn. Clippings are natural fertilizer that fortifies grass and soil.

    • 2

Sharpen or replace your mower blades often. A sharper blade will give you a cleaner cut on your small plot of grass.

    • 3

Mow about a third of the height of your grass at one time. Cut off more than this at any one time, and the core and the root system of the grass will be damaged, affecting the health and thickness of the grass. Without thick grass during the lawn's recovery, weeds will have more room to prosper.

    • 4

Cut the grass often. Once you notice that a third of the blade height has returned, it's time to bring the mower back out. This makes weed management a breeze and keeps your small plot of grass lush and healthy.
