How to Get Rid of White Clover

White clover typically can be found on lawns starting in the spring and lasting well into the summer. No matter how many times you chop off the white clovers at the stems when you mow your lawn or use the weed trimmer, they are likely to keep coming back. This is because you're not getting rid of the white clover from the roots. With their roots intact underground, white clover simply grows back through the soil again. You'll need to employ a long-term method to get rid of the white clover for good.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local home and garden center and find a weedkiller that has the ingredient Dicamba. These include Trimec Classic, Spectrum Lawn Weed Killer 33 Plus and Green Lite Wipe Out.

    • 2

Wait until late October or early November to apply the Dicamba weedkiller to areas of your lawn with white clover. The amount needed will depend on specific brand instructions, which are determined by concentration level and whether the product is a liquid or granular weedkiller. All weedkillers, however, benefit from being put on moist weeds and left alone for two days. When spreading or spraying large quantities of weedkiller, always wear gloves and a mask.

    • 3

Apply the Dicamba weedkiller again the following season. The white clover seeds have hard barriers and will likely live through the weedkiller application from the year before.

    • 4

Continue applying Dicamba weedkiller each season for about six to eight years. Each application will get rid of the white clover for the year, and, over time, you will be able to get rid of the seeds for good.
