How to Install a Rain Bird Sure-Pop Sprinkler

Rain Bird is a major manufacturer of sprinkler heads and other irrigation equipment. The company's Sure-Pop sprinklers are good options for watering small lawns, shrubs and other small areas. The Sure-Pop sprinklers are available in a wide array of nozzles, from full patterns to fully adjustable arcs. Like all pop-up sprinkler heads, the Sure-Pop uses water pressure to lift the nozzle above the ground. Installing these sprinkler heads is a relatively straightforward process that requires only a few tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Dig up the area around the old sprinkler head that you want to replace, or around the irrigation supply line where you want to attach the sprinkler. Remove at least 12 inches of dirt from around the base of the attachment point so that your hand has room to work.

    • 2

Unscrew the old sprinkler head counterclockwise. Pull the sprinkler off of the underground riser and discard it.

    • 3

Wrap the exposed threads of the sprinkler riser with a single layer of Teflon tape. The tape will help make the connection watertight.

    • 4

Place the bottom of the Raid Bird Sure-Pop sprinkler on the exposed riser.

    • 5

Turn the new sprinkler clockwise until tight.

    • 6

Replace the dirt around the base of the sprinkler.
