How Do I Rake Hay With the Kuhn SR 110 Hay Rake?

The Kuhn SR 110 Hay Rake is a commercial raking tractor that is used in large scale operations and operated by a seated driver. The SR 110, which stands for "Speed Rake," is a 10-wheel machine that rakes hay in fields of dry grass. The SR 110 rakes an almost 20-foot-wide track of hay and forms a neat line of raked hay down the middle of its path as it goes. This is accomplished by a pair of arms that host spinning rake wheels, which quickly scoop up the hay and shuttle it to the center of the path.

Instructions

    • 1

Drive the SR 110 to the field of dry hay, and position yourself at the start of a swath that you wish to rake.

    • 2

Move the link bar to select either "V" raking or right-side-only raking to engage the rake arms. "V" raking is used when you want to rake the widest swath of the field possible, and right-side raking is used when working the edges.

    • 3

Adjust the turnbuckles to set the arm angles. A wider angle covers more territory and is useful when the hay is very dry and loose, but tighter angles are better for less dry and more resistant hay.

    • 4

Switch on the raking wheels and drive a straight path through the hayfield. To avoid damaging the raking wheels, raise them any time you are not on the hayfield or about to drive on pavement. Make parallel lines down the field to have hay collected in small, straight rows down the middle of your path.
